Developed thoughts and Ideas

Developed ideas and finalized concepts

The group has come to more finalized concepts and decisions based the design and concept of the structure, as well as the context the landscape holds with in itself or displays off itself.

Main landform

The main landscape, which is in the center of the room contains and displays the entire exhibition in, and on it as a whole unit. The landscape/platform is adjustable and has components that can be altered, and taken away to create a structure that looks different and can be transformed if necessary.

The landscape acts as an object, which can be projected on to. This was decided through rear projection from within the structure. It can be used as a space where objects can be displayed on and it, with open compartments/holes and shelves within the structure. It can also be used as a stage for a performance space, or even a entertainment for the viewers when there isn’t a performance.

This main landscape allows the viewers to gain visual information from it through projections, imbedded screens, iPad’s, and audio from these various interactive technologies.

The physical structure is made from a timber wood, which is oiled and varnished to a fine finish, which is safe for interaction. The colour is a rich redy/brown so that the wood will fit in with the actual interior of the room.

On a certain section of the structure, the group has decided to backlit text. This is produced to show information about the design and the production of the idea generation. It is created through wood veneer, on top of the timber, which is then laser cut out, and backlit to produce text for the viewers to gain information.

Wire Grid

Above the main display, the group has decided to create a wire grid. The grid is made up of four x four thin wires, which cross over one another in a square shape. The grid hangs below the roof, and is positioned directly above the landscape display. The wire grid is hung in the center of the room, and is anchored to the four surrounding walls of the interior of the room, with wall anchors. The wall anchors will ensure that no damage is created to the space and is a safe option for the display of the grid.

The aim of the grid is to allow fabric’s to be hung from the wired grid. The fabrics are triangular shaped; a few of them connect to the landscape stage others hang freely. The others are weighted so that they will stay hanging straight and rather still.

Fabrics

The idea of the fabric was to create something extra into the design, and for the fabric to block off certain rays of natural light that enters the room. The other main reason for the fabric shapes that are being hung from the grid of the roof, is that we are able to project an image or information on to the fabric. This enables us to have another source of information for the audience to follow, and interact with.

The group decided that we would stick to white fabrics such as netting, cotton or a type of white calico, and chiffon. They wanted something that was clear, so that you can see through it, making sure your vision or view isn’t narrowed or blocked. But also something, which is quite natural looking and can also be projected on to, hence the colour choice of white.

Inanimate object

The inanimate object the group has decided on is a mannequin. The Mannequin is position on the main landscape towards the back of the room. It is positioned perfectly in the center of the four mirrors, which are displayed on the walls of the room (Two mirrors on the back wall, in-between the windows, and one mirror on each side of the walls by the side doors). The aim of positioning the mannequin in this space is so that where ever you stand in the room you can see the reflection of the mannequin from a range of directions. This position allows the viewers to see this display from all kinds of angles.
