MDF cut out text

Backlit Signage

The MDF cut out text is an idea the group came up with as a form of signage or text display. How this idea works is through a timber veneer, which is drawn on to, cut out, placed into the landscape on top of the timber box. Which is then backlit from inside the landscape platform.

This allows for a natural form of text that is quite intriguing, and connects well with the overall design of the structure, and the natural theme the display portrays to its viewers.

Below are some examples of other backlit text researched:

The design below is the text the group came up with to display through the backlit text on the main structure. It acts as an introduction to the exhibit.

The group managed to get their hands on some veneer wood, and we tested out how this idea would work and photographed some images of the tests we trialed. This is what we created (the following images are original files) :

The tests turned out rather well; I think it will definitely work for the exhibition. This type of signage will look really great and fits in well as a part of the whole unit. We can positively say that this was a good option, and is a successful idea.

Below are some edited images of the photographs we took, whilst experimenting with the veneer and back light source.
