Stages and Platform Research Ideas

Platform/stage Examples

Below I have gathered a range of concepts and ideas that will all contribute to thoughts for a final concept and design to create a main landscape/structure for our exhibition. Each image has different qualities that are really great; a combination of these ideas can produce a really well varied structure, which can contain multiple different aspects of display. This is what we would like to achieve for our own exhibition.

I like the stairs and elevation off the ground in this image.

I think the layers and ramp are rather appealing.

Different types of display for different areas and functions. Allowing you to imagine the link with the interior of the sight and the object being displayed with in the space. Making sure that there is flow and consistancy.

Structure based, should there be a frame, or sides to the structure.

Elevation, stairs.

Having the platform raised is quite a good idea. This will allow for the structure to be clearly seen, as well as a space which can also be used as a performance space and stage.

Questioning whether we should have light with in the display, or just on top of the display.

Simple shapes may be the way to start organising/creating our own display.

Curves and shapes to make the display more interesting, or should we stick with single characteristics. Like either straight/square, or round/curves, or a combination of the two.

Considering whether there should be a ramp on to the landscape structure.

Should the be barriers or rails

Looking at different heights or levels for the structure.

Initial inspiration, this is where we got our idea from in the first place.

Common Features and characteristics

After researching a range of stages and platform inspirations, I have picked out some common factors and aspects that I like, and think work rather well. These are, stairs, shapes, curves, ramps, levels, and overlapping of layers within the display. For our own display I think it would be good if we can incorporate all of these factors into our design.
